Portlandia season 3 premieres tonight at 10 on IFC, like 10 minutes ago from when I will upload this. Portlandia is one of the funniest, most brilliant shows I’ve become hooked on in the past few years. I have a weird, long relationship with the show starting with when I reviewed the pilot for my internship at TV Without Pity (which I wrote up before I returned to campus after winter break and IFC ended up swapping the 1st & 2nd episodes when it first aired, so I technically reviewed the 2nd episode). I fell in love with the show, wrote another article about it for the BU Quad, wrote a Portlandia sketch for one of my UCB classes, and have attended every Portlandia-related event in the NY area since. That includes: a Conversation with Fred and Carrie interviewed by Julie Klausner at Paley Center a year ago this month, followed by the Portlandia Live Tour at Bowery Ballroom that same night (when my friend Andrea and I got the microphone during the Q&A portion and proposed to Fred and Carrie, like all 4 of us married in friendship, which they agreed to); the IFC Upfrontlandia last April (when I met them as seen above and also told them I was one of those weird girls who proposed to them, which Carrie said she remembered); the Portlandia conversation with Fred, Carrie, and director Jonathan Krisel during New Yorker Fest last November (when Andrea and I did a follow-up question and asked when the wedding was and they said they remembered us again and to plan it and they’ll show up); and finally, the IFC Portlandia Season 3 Premiere Party (when I geeked out to a bunch of my comedy heroes and also reminded Fred again that I was one of those weird girls that proposed to them). Weirded out yet? I’m also going to see them later this month at a Times Talk for another Portlandia Live event with Fred, Carrie, and Jonathan Krisel interviewed by one of my favorite NY Times reporters, Dave Itzkoff. You don’t have to be as obsessive as a fan as I’ve become to enjoy it though. But you might become one if you start watching it. So watch it, or just live a life of regrets and disregard for great TV shows, I dunno, maybe you like teen dramas more.
This lady should probably take over our Portlandia tweets one week, eh?
